New Space Hulk Terminators fit on 40mm bases

Since I'm in the process of painting up the new Space Hulk Terminators for my local game store, I thought I might see how well they fit on 40mm bases.

Every last one of them fit perfectly onto 40mm round bases. I tried them all. Even the dead Terminator on the throne fits on there.

The only one that has a small part that hangs over the edge is the Terminator kneeling down. And that can be easily fixed with a trim of his "Hulk base."

Just thought I might share guys.
For a more in depth look at the model, this post has my thoughts.

  2. How do the re-based terminators fit on the Space Hulk board? Do they look ok?

  3. Yes,good question better yet is there any way you can take a pic with it on a game piece?

  4. I've seen a set in hand, and no the 40mm bases do not fit on the space hulk board. they hang over a space on all sides. You'll need to magnetize em.

  5. Excellent, thanks. I plan to use magnets to attach mine to 40mm bases.

  6. Very cool. Will probably have to magnetize some regular terminators on thin bases to do the same thing as well.

  7. Just worked out the points for the set.

It's 745 points of 'Bloodwing'. It is just a single chainfist termie correct? I can't remember for the life of me.

I can't wait for this box...

  8. The 40mm does'nt look much bigger that the one he is on.

  9. I might get these and paint them up as some blood angels sucsessors. It would be noce to have more termies. The only problem is the mix between the two types of termie, you don't have 5 combat and 5 shooty it's something like 7 shooty and 3 combat.

  10. Thanks Ron, very helpful. They will fit into my existing Bloodwing army perfectly.

  12. Perfect!!!
I was hoping they would fit on without significant overhangs. Looks like my task of slicing off the Hulk bases and rebasing on 40mm round ones will be significantly easier!!!

Next dilemma... do I base them up like my existing army (rocks, rubble, barbed wire...) or base them up as if they're from Hulk. Either way, they'd stand out if used in the other game system.

    Oh, the dilemma!

  13. If I wanted to use it for both, I'd bury a 1/8" Diam. magnet in the bottom of each foot. The game itself is a blast. (Lost to my son last night)

Now I'm gonna have to rehab the 3-D Space Hulk that I built for Gamesday 2 years ago... Damn, another to-do item!

  14. Grey_Death: Yep, just one chainfist in the lot.

Warpspawn: These guys paint up fast for tabletop quality. I'm working on getting them all painted up this weekend and I'll post pics and process when done.

While you have these minis what is the store using for the demo since the great looks of these sculpts really help sell the game. Or is selling through the stores copies not going to be a problem.

  16. erichrome: This is rush job for me. Less than a week turnaround and I'm hoping to have all of them done by tomorrow afternoon so I can get them back to the store.

I actually think the store has sold out all of the copies they ordered.

  17. I would say definitely base them as Space Hulk.
I bought 4 sheets of double diamond plasticard to use just for this purpose.
A couple of Dragonforge cables and some scrap wire and you're in business.

A quick down and dirty way to paint the BA is
    -White/Grey undercoat
    -GW Foundation Mechandrite Red
    -GW Blood Red Hightlights
-GW Blazing Orange for extreme highlights

  18. Excellent! Thanks for the info. :)

  19. Ron these are looking great. Makes me wish that I was local so that I could get a game in with them

  20. Brilliant news. Well, not for my bank balance or the ever depleting space in my house. Makes me consider a Blood Angels army... oh oh! :D

  21. Hi Ron -- thanks for this post mate! Have you had a look at how well (or not) the genestealers would match up to standard circular bases? Cheers!

  22. jabberjabber: I got my hands on some of them last night... and of the ones I had, they aren't even close to fitting.

  23. It looks good, but it's typical GW to design them so that they can only be used in the game and not in battles (without tinkering with them).

  24. "typical GW to design them so that they can only be used in the game and not in battles (without tinkering with them)."

    WHAT?

They have been designed so they can be used with Space Hulk because they are Space Hulk components. They have also been designed so they can easily be given 40mm bases if you want to use them in 40K.

The only way they could have done both was by producing over-sized Space Hulk boards, which would not have been compatable with old PSace Hulk sets (which I *think* these are).

  25. cool thoughts but i would like some tips on converting my termies into ultramarines do u think it woulld work?

    ReplyDelete
  26. boushkaa: I'm sure it could be done but there comes a point where it's alomst better to start with regular Terminators because of the amount of work involved converting the already Blood Angel ones into a completely new Chapter with their own distinct iconography.
Impossible, no... lots of work, yes.
