FTW: Site news and changes

From the Warp logoNow that I've been able to get things back up and running, I want to get everyone else back up to speed with a few new things going on here at FTW.

Let's get right to it.

First... the next couple weeks are going to be hit and miss with my online time. With Summer officially here, my Wife has BIG plans for me. So... if you send me an email or leave a comment and I don't get right back to you, please know that I will as soon as I can. It may take me a few days in some cases, but I will get back to you and I will catch up with comments. Believe me.

I've got tons of material scheduled for the time I am away and most of it is Heroes of Armageddon related! Just know that I'll catch back up with everyone when I do get back to the computer.

Adding reader content to posts
The previous way for me to collect reader contributions was either to search for stuff in all the rolls or do a Collaborative Post. While that worked before, it created a few problems along the way.

I'm going to try something new. I've started doing it with the Hobby Focus articles I post where if someone leaves a comment and includes a tip or a link to something relevant... I go through and add it back into the post.

This provides them a bit of recognition for their work (and traffic) and helps readers get the most from the additional content that is shared by others. I know I appreciate when someone shares something they've learned along the way. I can't begin to tell you how many times it's helped me.

Search box temporarily removed... and replaced
I don't know how many people used the feature, but I've had to take it down for the time being as it stopped working correctly. Some looking around and I discovered this is a problem for a number of sites and it's been going on unresolved for some time now. I suppose I was lucky that it did not catch up with me sooner.

I'm in the market for a new search function if anyone knows of a reliable one. I need something that will search this site and all the FTW Member sites as well.

I'm currently testing out a custom Google search engine that goes through the FTW site and all of the blogs in the rolls at the time the reader searches. We'll see how it does.

Heroes of Armageddon project and commissions
If you haven't heard about this one, I'm not sure what to say. If you haven't contributed to the project... I don't know what to tell you other than you need to get involved immediately.
Go here and get involved.

Heroes of Armageddon banner WIPAs for me, I am finishing up my contribution to the project and will be posting a good bit more of my work in the coming weeks as the project begins to wind down and I get things done.

Nothing like a deadline to motivate you huh?

And it's not your computer that's broken, the image on the right does not get any bigger like they usually do... you'll need to find it online elsewhere this coming Friday to see the larger version.
HINT: Jawaballs may have it.

For those I'm doing commission work for, I appreciate your understanding and patience while everything has been put on hold so I can participate in the Heroes of Armageddon project. As soon as I am done, I will be back at work trying to grind through everything I have lined up. It's going to be a busy Summer, but lots of fun with the variety of projects I have to work on.

Thank you for the support
I just want to say Thank you to all the folks who have taken the time to email me their questions and such. I love getting the emails and it provides me with a chance to help out and even try new things that I can post about.

I think that about covers it.
I promise regular content will resume in the next post.

Ron, From the WarpIf you've got any questions about something in this post, shoot me a comment and I'll be glad to answer. Make sure to share your hobby tips and thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Cool Ron, your blog is only getting better each week!

Thanks for putting in all the great work.

  2. Thanks Red. I'm trying to be sure that the work I do is appropriate for the site and doesn't overload the time I have to do it in. Balance.

On a completely unrelated note, I've grabbed an image from your site for the next Hobby Focus article so keep an eye out for it.

  3. Cool news all around. Just don't let it overwhelm you.

  4. Damn fine job on the banner, but I personally have been wondering, how is it you blend like that for your freehand?

  5. Good stuff dude. I'm a big fan- keep up preachin' the good hobby word!

  6. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person whose wife likes to make big plans for them. The honey-do list never seems to get any shorter around my house...

  7. Will do, thanks mate. Enjoy your time offline in the summer sun, I'm jealous with it being winter and all here!

  8. Keep up the good work, Ron. This blog is everything I love about the hobby.

Also the new google search seems to work really well.

  9. ariandynas: A super fine detail brush and patience. That and a simple formula will get the same results. Monday is the big banner post and I touch on the process in the post.
Truthfully, it's much easier painting a banner than a model since the banner is flat.

The Inner Geek: She has a laundry list of little things for me to do and it never gets any shorter.

Skeller: Thanks for letting em know. I use it to see what everyone else has posted about a certain topic (like 6th edition).
