Adeptus Arbite squad by Marc Raley
First, I hope everyone had a good weekend and holiday.
I managed to get tons of work done on a number of projects that I'll be updating here in the coming weeks. Lots of very cool stuff.
As you can see, the site has a new look. I decided to get rid of the non-Blogger elements in the site and go with a Blogger template. While doing that, I decided to add the third column back in on the left. I'm planning on using this for link lists so I can get to lots of different places quickly.
Nothing has been removed from the site. In fact most things are exactly where they were before I put the new template up. Actually they're not, most of the "links" have been brought over to the left for easy navigation.
The one big change to the site is to the FTW Blogger Group blog rolls. They no longer scroll and only show the top 5 most recent posts. If you want to see the rest of the posts in that roll, you just need to click on the Show All link at the bottom of the roll. Just like all the other blog rolls out there on the planet.
The reason for this change was maintaining the rolls was becoming too much for one person to keep track of. It was quickly becoming a "Police State" here on FTW. I was finding myself doing "maintenance" and "policing" more than I was doing hobby stuff or spending time looking through what others had recently posted. Not how I want to spend my hobby time. I'd rather be commenting on others bolgs instead of doing daily upkeep here.
While I'm sure some people liked the scrolling capabilty of the rolls, I hope you guys understand the changes needed to keep the site running and my sanity in place.
and last but not least, the Storm Wardens Project is rounding the final weeks. The last day for donations is the 18th of July. You're crazy if you haven't gotten in on this and donated yet. All the info is on the right. All the money goes to the charity Doctors Without Borders, so help us raise as much money as possible.

How much has the StormWardens project raised? It might be good to tell people and then give them a target so that we can get loads more folks in for the last push :)

Any idea what the Adeptus Arbites recipe is? Looks like boltgun/scouts/Imp conversion? Pretty outstanding if you ask me. Which no one does, but that is another story....:)

ReplyDeleteVery clean look to the site, might take a while to get use to but it looks good overall. However I find its the best way to find new blogs was via the scroll tool. Would really like to see it back as it was very user friendly and requires next to nothing to implement. I was so impressed b it that I searched for the code and put it up on my blog. I have the code for the scrolling blog roles.

ReplyDeleteLooking fine Ron. I also liked the previous skin, but this one does indeed make things even better! Though it does take a tad more work to go through all the new blog updates.

The new look is, in this commenter's opinion, a great improvement; crisp, clean and not at all more difficult to navigate.

Thanks for the support guys. I know I can't make everyone happy, but I'm trying to do the best with the resources I have available to me (to include my time).

Once I get everything settled in here with the new format, I may try fiddling with the scrolling code again. No promises though.
I like the new look, particularly your choice of colors. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I almost do miss the header, or a header in the middle column. I'd love it if you enabled Disqus comments. If you are using a new Blogger template, it is pretty easy to do.
I also meant to say I to like the change and totally understand why you'd make it - even writing a small blog takes lots of time, and yours is not small - its awesome :D

Please say what happened to the Pre Heresy list of things? I googled it yesterday and found and saved it, and now its gone. Where is it? I never saved any of the links on the page so it would be helpful if you could provide some of them.
