FW Daemon Prince conversion finished

So I managed to get this guy finished up the other day. It took longer because I could only sculpt a section at a time and then had to wait for it to dry in between.

I added some spikes back in along his spine to make it look a little more convincing and not like the wings were added as an afterthought.

Once I knew where the wings were going to go, I drilled a hole for a flat head screw to go into his torso. Then, after pinning the wings together, I added a magnet to the underside in the small gap between them. I actually drilled out a small area to recess the magent so the wings would sit lower to the body.

Then it was just a matter of greenstuffing the gap between the new wings and the torso while trying to carry over the textur and shapes already there.

Here's how I magnetized the wings in place.

  1. Awesome work mate, at first glance I was worried you'd forgotten to keep the wings separate like you mentioned before, but it's great to see how perfectly the model works with wings attached or removed. Very nice work with the green stuff too. I'm still a bit worried about using it to model with as I've never attempted it before but seeing this has given me a few ideas!

  3. That is one beast of a model. It looked evil enough before but now you can just imagine the Guardsman thinking,
    "Oh crap....now it can fly!"

Is it going to be painted for a specific legion? One day I'm going to have one for my Iron Warriors.. maybe once the new plastic one is released!

  5. Thanks guys... but I hate to let you all down... I'm not painting this guy.

My role was just to convert/add the wings. He's already been turned over to his rightful master.

  6. Awesome. I like the model much better with wings after seeing this. Are those the wings from the LOTR Balrog?

  7. oni: Yes, they are... I did a little trimming but they're left untouched for the most part.

  8. the wings are just the right size. think about what it would take to put that thing in the air, they look big but in reality its like little bears soup, just right.
