Entering the Golden Bolter competition

It was suggested that I enter this contest by one of my friends a while ago. I thought about it initially but never gave it much thought after that. Seemed like a cool idea but I've got so much other stuff going on, I just let the idea fall by the wayside.

Since I've been working on Inquisitor Lok, I've decided that I'm going to enter him in the competition under the Single Mini category and see what comes of it. I think he's in Artificer armour, I just need to double check to make sure. That counts as power armour right? I've got a good amount of work in him and he's being painted to an above "tabletop quality" level as it is for my friend. It shouldn't add any more work than I was already planning to do and certainly won't add any more time to the project which is the important part for my friend.

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen many other people talking about this contest. There's less than a month left until the deadline I think but I would have thought I'd have seen more people posting their entries.

As I get him photographed (his done), I'll post some pictures of him for critque. I'll need you guys to let me know what you think so I can make improvements before submitting pictures of him. Of course the primary goal for the model is making my friend happy, but after that, it will be interesting to see how he fares among the other entries if I'm allowed to submit him.

Ron, From the WarpIf you've got any questions about something in this post, shoot me a comment and I'll be glad to answer. Make sure to share your hobby tips and thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Good choice for GD, such finely detailed minis always seem to do quite well. He does indeed have artificier armour with integrated retractor field, so 2+/5+ invul save.

  2. I like the new look of FTW, very classy. I will be entering and I may or may not talk about my entries before the deadline. Right now I have plans to enter signal model and Vehicle, though have a squad I may enter depending on how they turn out. Best of luck to you.

  3. Doesn't need to be in power armour to be allowed in Bolter and Chainsword. The Inquisition and Daemon codices are allowed as they have their own sub-forums. Unless I missed something in the Golden Bolter rules about entries having to wear power armour. Might want to double check with one of the mods like Kurgan.

  4. I'll be honest i wrote off entering for two main reasons -

firstly it seems very little of my army would be able to be entered as the rules on the models are quite tight, in fact i seem to remember reading you can't enter inquisitors, but that could me a misrecollection :)

secondly I've seen WiP posts from people like lunchbox and others who are clearly way way better painters than me, declaring they are entering, so at my skill level, knowing the competition, what's the point?

I know similar applies to the golden demon itself, but the Golden Demon is a day out at least, and it has a "gateway", were I to enter the GD i'd have no illusions about winning, but would hope to get through the first cut, a goal for me.

theres none of that with this, that i can see.

ohh, i come of really negative here eh? :)

  5. Yes it's pretty quiet but I think we will see some great entries in the competition.

I'm also working on an entry for the competition: a unit of Deathwing. Check out the latest WIP here: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2010/01/deathwing-terminators-wip-iii.html

    Good luck!

  6. Corvus: Those guys are coming along nicely.
I like minis painted wiht a distinct style more than I like "perfectly" paintde ones and those are looking good.
